Bernese Mountain Dog
Standing at between 60 and 70cms, the Bernese Mountain Dog is a dog breed whose physical size is only superseded by that of its affection toward others. Originally bred to work on various farms in Bern, Switzerland, the Bernese Mountain Dog is always happy to carry out various tasks and gets great pleasure from following the instructions of their owners. While their size can make them intimidating at first, it only takes a few seconds to notice their gentleness and inherent love toward people and animals alike.
The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large dog breed, one of the four breeds of Sennenhund-type dogs from the Swiss Alps. These dogs have roots in the Roman mastiffs. The name Sennenhund is derived from the German Senne and Hund, as they accompanied the alpine herders and dairymen called Senn. For their size, Bernese Mountain Dogs tend to be very energetic and require daily bursts of exercise in order to stay healthy and happy.
