A Street Cat Named Bob
James Bowen is a former busker and Big Issue vendor. He met Bob, a ginger cat, in 2007 when he found him, lying injured in the hallway of his block of flats in north London. The pair became inseparable, drawing crowds and a huge online following as they appeared on the streets of London together.
Bowen chronicled their story in a book, A Street Cat Named Bob, published in March 2012. The uplifting tale of companionship struck a chord with readers and quickly became an international best-seller. In total, over seven million books featuring Street Cat Bob have been sold worldwide.
In 2016, Sony Pictures acquired the UK distribution rights for the film adaptation of ‘A Street Cat.’ In November 2017 the film had a Royal Premiere in November, with The Duchess of Cambridge in attendance. The film went on to be a box office hit. Check it out on IMDB and view on Wiki.
Bowen now dedicates his time to help numerous charities that involve homelessness, literacy, and animal welfare, including the animal charity Blue Cross for whom he has recently raised funds and Beam, the homelessness charity which supports and trains homeless people so they can find work and live independent lives.
