You mutt be joking – We kid you not!2017 World’s Ugliest Dog contest is back!

The world’s so called ugliest mutts are set to battle it out in a very peculiar beauty contest for the coveted title of the world’s ugliest dog.

The annual event brings together the most ‘unattractive’ hounds from all over the world and this year’s contest is no different. Personally we prefer to call these dogs unique in appearance. Some of the entrants include those with permanently jutting-out tongues, squashed faces, and issues with their fur or drool.

But no matter their appearance, the dogs are all still much beloved by their owners, who will be hoping to take home the $1,500 (£1,188) first prize which will take place at the Sonoma-Marin Fair, in Petaluma, California.

Erin Post, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Fair, said: ‘We’re proud to celebrate all dogs and pets by showing that no matter their imperfections, they are adoptable, lovable and a great addition to any family.’

As well as the cash prize, the winning dog will also be flown to New York City for a variety of media appearances.

In order to be crowned the winner, though, the selected pooch must undergo strict judging criteria.
